Luisa Mitchell (Shaw) is a Whadjuk Nyungar Anglo-Australian writer and arts producer.
Born and raised in Rubibi/Broome on Yawuru and Djukun country, she now lives in her ancestral country in Boorloo/Perth.
Luisa is a writer, storyteller, filmmaker and producer with a passion for creating spaces for other First Nations mob to share their stories. She co-facilitates the First Nations WA Writers Program at Centre for Stories with Ballardong editor Casey Mulder. Luisa is a published author and poet, with short stories and poems featured in Westerly, Liquid Amber Press, Portside Review and more. She was awarded the Best Emerging Poet Prize by Liquid Amber Press in 2022 and shortlisted for the The Richell Prize for Emerging Writers in 2023. She is currently working on her debut poetry manuscript with Fremantle Press.
She continues to be interested in writing about place, belonging, identity, justice and connection. In her free time, she enjoys going for walks, beach swims in summer, and dancing all-year round.
